Nature's Fireworks

The night I hand wrote this into my notebook was on Thursday 8-16-18 and adding it to my blog now. Enjoy....

Punch Rare Corojo Cigar

I went outside to my backyard to enjoy a a stogie and a glass or two of wine. The wine is a bottle of Bel Vino Vintners Select Prima Zinfandel Desert Wine, chilled which goes great with cigars. It tastes more like a port. And, the cigar is a Punch Rare Corojo. After I clipped my cigar and started to pour my wine, I noticed flashes of light in the distance in the East. I don't know how long it has been occurring but I noticed it at about 8:20 PM or so. It is 8:34 PM now since I started handwriting this in my notebook to add this entry into this blog later. The light was so awe inspiring that I felt a need to record it. It is natures version of fireworks. Just beautiful. It looks cloudy in the dark distance but, to me it doesn't look like your typical storm clouds. Over my head the the sky is clear and I can see the constellations and to the East of me I can see a very bright almost yellowish star or planet. I can see the crescent moon with one of the planets shining next to it off to the West of me.

Lightning Show
The only thing is I don't hear any thunder. I am not a meteorologist by any stretch of the imagination but, correct me if I am wrong shouldn't I be hearing thunder? I had to do a Google search and according to nssl.noaa.gov website, NSSC National Severe Storms Laboratory it isn't possible to have lightning without thunder. It is possible to not hear the thunder due to the storm being too far away and yet, still be able to see the lightning. I feel I should be able to hear it because, the lightning seems so close to where I  live.

I do see chain lighting from time to time but, mostly it has been just a quick flash lighting up the entire distance night sky. It is now 8:56 PM and it is still putting on a decent light show. sometimes quick little bursts and then a large flash. It seems to be moving East as time goes by. Out of curiosity I started to time it between flashes and I am averaging about 4 seconds between bursts. I am know I am writing a lot about this lightning show but weather especially storms fascinate me. I have always had a fascination with t storm and tornadoes. I fear tornadoes though. On a side note I don't really fear earthquakes as much as I do tornadoes. I would rather go thru an earthquake than a tornado any day if I had the choice.

I should have went to school to be a meteorologist but my problem is school. I used to hate sitting in a classroom all day. I used to look out the classroom window and gaze out onto the horizon wondering what is happening on the other side of the world. Time is 9:03 PM  still flashing you can tell it is moving on time between flashes is about 15 seconds. This is highly unscientific. The temp here is about 72 degrees and the humidity is 77 percent. It doesn't feel that warm to me, I can feel a nice cool breeze that is probably why it feels cooler. This is the perfect temp to be outside at night in a t shirt and shorts. Not too hot and not cold. Well the time is now 9:17 PM and I have seen any flashes of late. I noticed the last flash occurred at about 9:14 PM. That sucks because I was really enjoying the show. Oh, I tried filming the light show on my phone's camera but, it didn't seem to work very well.

Until next time... Smoke'em if you got'em.
